    Composer Biography

    Joseph Phibbs was born in London in 1974. In 1996 he graduated from Kings College London with a Masters Degree in Composition before attending Cornell University, New York graduating with a DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) in Musical Composition under the tutelage of  Steven Stucky. He has also studied under renowned composers Param Vir and Harrison Birtwistle.
    In 2004 his work Lumina was shortlisted for a British Composer Award in two categories, Orchestral and the BBC Radio 3 Listeners Award. Since 2008 he has been a Director of the Britten Estate Ltd, and is a visiting lecturer in composition at both The Purcell School and King’s College London.

    About this work

    Rivers to the Sea is a piece composed for Orchestra. It was commissioned by the Philharmonia Orchestra and Anvil Arts for the 18th anniversary celebrations of The Anvil. It was premiered by the Philharmonia Orchestra at The Anvil, Basingstoke on 22nd June 2012.
