Born in 1953, Orlando Gough was educated at Oxford University where he studied Mathematics. As a composer he is completely self taught. He has notable recent success at the British Composer Awards as in 2011 his work A Ring A Lamp A Thing won the Stage Works category and in the same year his jointly composed piece Fables- A Film Opera was shortlisted in the Outreach category. In 2001, Gough was Time Out’s Classical Artist of the Year and is currently an associate artist of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Imago is a community opera with a cast including professional singers and performers drawn from the local community. It was performed by the Aurora Orchestra who were joined by young instrumentalists. It was commissioned by Scottish Opera and Glyndebourne and had its UK premiere at Glyndebourne on the 6 March 2013.
