Kerry Andrew studied at the University of York where she obtained a PhD in Composition.
In 2010 she won the Making Music Award at the British Composer Awards for her work Fall and won two British Composer Awards in 2014, in the Stage Works category for Dart’s Love, and in the Education and Community Category for her community opera Woodwose. She was shortlisted in 2012 for her work Lock Is A Gate and in 2013 for her work Screech. The vocal trio of which she is a member, juice, won an international Independent Music Award in 2012 for their debut album Songspin, she received a PRS For Music Foundation Women Make Music Award in 2011 and was 2010-12′s Composer in Residence at Handel House Museum. Screech forms the last part of a three-movement flexible work for contemporary recorder quintet Consortium 5, Badluck Birds, which is inspired by regional lore of three different British birds. It was commissioned by the Handel House Museum and had its world premiere on the 11 October 2012 at the Handel House Museum performed by Consortium 5.
