    Composer Biography

    Self-taught composer Andy Scott brings his vast experience as a saxophonist to his works. Andy was a British Composer Award winner in 2006 with ’Dark Rain’, and shortlisted in 2012 with ’Spirit of Mingus’

    Tenor saxophonist with the Apollo Saxophone Quartet (est.1985), Andy performs and writes for his large ensemble, SaxAssault, and has an experimental Duo with percussionist Dave Hassell.

    Andy is composer in Residence with Foden’s Brass Band and Tutor of Saxophone & Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

    His works are published exclusively by Astute Music.

    Work A Child Like You

    About this work

    A Child Like You depicts the real life story of a 17 year old Ugandan Asian who fled Uganda in 1972 under the brutal regime of Idi Amin, and who subsequently lived with the family of composer Andy Scott via UK refugee camps. Andy has composed music and lyrics that are powerful and thought provoking, producing a 15 minute mini opera featuring soprano/narrator Anna-Clare Monk, harpist Lauren Scott, the world famous Foden’s Band and four young musicians from Foden’s Youth Band who both play and narrate.

    Commissioned by PRS for Music Foundation’s new Music Biennial it received it’s UK premiere on 2nd May 2014 in the Opera Theatre, RNCM by Foden’s Band.
