ABOUT PRS FOR MUSIC

PRS for Music is a society of songwriters, composers and publishers, which collects and distributes music royalties on their behalf.

It has a membership of 85,000 that includes classical composers, TV and film score composers, publishers, pop and rock songwriters and library music creators, all of whom are represented on the organisation’s boards and committees.

PRS for Music was founded in 1914 by a group of classical composers who came together to administer copyright under the Performing Right Society banner. It joined with the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society in 1997 and today is one of the largest collecting societies in Europe.

The organisation has proudly sponsored the British Composer Awards for a decade, since the very first ceremony.
