NOMINATING WORKS


The British Composer Awards celebrate the music of today’s composers living and working in the United Kingdom and also UK premieres of work by composers from outside the UK.

Anyone can nominate an eligible work and for 2014 BASCA invited nominations in the following categories:


Instrumental Solo or Duo

Chamber
Three or more instruments written for one player per part

Vocal
Solo voice(s) unaccompanied or with accompaniment from a single instrument up to orchestra

Choral
A cappella or accompanied including choir and orchestra

Wind Band or Brass Band

Orchestral

Stage Works

Liturgical

Works composed for and performed during an act of worship for any religious faith

Sonic Art

For example live electronics, interactive installations, collaborative multi-media performance

Contemporary Jazz Composition


Community or Educational Project
Works will show evidence of both original work by the composer and contributions at a compositional level from a group of participants with whom the composer is working

Making Music Award

Works for voluntary, amateur or youth choirs and ensembles

International Award

Nominations were invited for works that had received their UK premiere between 1 April 2013 and 31 March 2014 and the closing date was Friday 18 July 2014.

The 12th annual British Composer Awards will take place at Goldsmiths’ Hall, London on Tuesday 2 December 2014.

The awards are presented by BASCA and sponsored by PRS for Music. They are presented in association with BBC Radio 3 who provide exclusive broadcast coverage of the Awards.
